The Art of Clan Leading - Chapter 2 (Discipline and Design)
The choice between disciplined or "free roaming" systems has played a critical role in the success of many clans. Normally this choice rests on who is leading the clan, and their opinion on what type of clan they want to lead. There is no doubt leadership can be strong in either point, but the fact is that clans are only as good as their members and leaders make them out to be. If you're a clan leader, you should be able to determine what kind of clan system you naturally create under your leadership. Take a look at the scale below, each end portraying the opposite poles of design which are ultimately influenced by the leader:
>Extreme discipline at all times, complete armor/bio uniforms, extreme rule amount
>Discipline required at all times, armor uniforms, large rule amount
>Discipline required during clan events/training only, less armor uniforms, moderate rule amount
>Discipline is less required, moderate armor uniforms, moderate rule amount
>Discipline is not required, only color/emblem uniforms, few amount of rules
>Discipline is non-existent, no uniforms, little to no rules
If you found your clan somewhere leaning towards one of the two ends, that's OK, it just means you lead a certain way.
Keeping things organized may be helpful, but too much organization and discipline can lead to lack of members to fill your clan. The higher your level of clan discipline/organization, the higher the quality of members you will have in the end. However, the higher the level of discipline, the lower your member count will be as not everyone finds an all-strict environment enjoyable.
Less organization and more freedom given to individuals creates an environment where there may be more members, as there are little requirements to prevent them from joining. However, a less organized/disciplined clan will almost surely lack in quality of members due to the lack of standards set for recruits.
So now it should become apparent, that most will appreciate a clan somewhere in between those two poles. A clan where members are enjoying the experience, yet are kept in line. Your leadership (as stated in the previous chapter), will in the end decide how your clan functions. In summary, most of your future subordinates will likely enjoy a good militarized experience, while also being able to have times for loosening up and playing. These experiences are what keep members joining, and staying in your clans; so think it best to invest some thought on this before you overdo or even neglect your clan's discipline and design...
