The Art of Clan Leading - Chapter 3 (Keeping a Clan Active)
When a clan is "active", it is in simpler terms, alive. Running. Not inactive. A clan that expects to keep it's members will have to be actively run by it's leaders. Meaning events should take place, training held routinely, and meetings gathered weekly. If a clan leader fails to appoint the proper personnel to run these necessities (If the leaders themselves are not running them), a clan will essentially collapse no matter how many members it has, or how "strong" it's foundation or history. A clan simply does not run itself. Many active members get online almost daily and will expect to play with the clan almost daily, and this should be expected from an "active" clan. So then rises the question "how does one keep a clan active?", as answered in this chapter:
1. Have Active Leaders
I cannot stress enough as to how important this is to keeping a clan active. Referring to earlier chapters, again the leaders SET THE EXAMPLE. If the leaders play often and run scheduled events for the clan, members will play often because they can expect the leaders will be online to run those games. This having active leaders does not only apply to the clan's top leaders, but to the staff and lower NCO's as well. If group leaders are active (especially at squad level) you can expect that squad/group to be active even if the surrounding units are not. So choose active members to hold leadership roles, even if the role is a small one.
2. Have Scheduled Activities/Routines
If your clan has activities on a daily basis and "big" events on weekends you can expect members to be more interested in the clan as a whole. The members who play daily will find they have something to do during the week, such as clan practices/training, and during the weekends all members both everyday and weekend players will enjoy the larger clan gatherings where meetings and events can be held. If you schedule activities members will also have added motivation to get online because they know an event is planned for that time, so they wont be sitting around waiting for things to happen.
3. Include Members in Event Planning/Clan Decisions
Having a clan where members have no say in decisions or events is no fun. If your clan allows for members to state their input on what the "next big event" should be about, and vote on it, most likely those members will be more interested in what goes on in the clan. You can also have a rotation of weekly events as decided by your general population of members, so even the minority favored events get a chance to be run. If your clan also allows for members to earn a position where they have a say on clan decisions (for example in a council), then members will again feel more interested in what goes on in the clan. The more interactive your clan is with it's members, the more active the clan will be.
NOTE: Avoid when hosting events, keeping members in game lobbies for extended periods of time, as I have seen this issue in many clans and it is generally found very boring for most clan members... So if you're waiting for something, you might as well start a game in the meantime.
